Neat and Tidy Four Patch
Pressing patchwork seams really affects how the quilt looks on the wall or on the bed. Nice, flat patchwork is easier to quilt too. John presses as he pieces with an ironing area right next to his machine. Planning which direction to press long seams so that the four patch intersections can be pressed open like the example helps your patchwork stay flat. We “set” the stitches by pressing the line of stitches before pressing the seam to one side. Sometimes, on a long seam, the best approach is to press the seam open, instead of to one side or the other.
If you want a small supply of John’s business cards which have a guide for the “scant quarter inch” printed on the back, just send us a self addressed stamped envelope and a note with your request.
